My Dream Vacation Due Date: May 20, 2011
Design a brochure, PowerPoint, or write a paper about your dream vacation. Pretend you have unlimited money and unlimited time.
Use the following questions as guidelines (if you have other information, you may share it):
· How will you get there? (plane, boat, bridge, train) How much will it cost to get there?
· Does your travel package include air fare and rental car?
· Will you need shots?
· Will you need a passport?
· What language do they speak there? If they don’t speak English, what will you do?
· Find images or draw images of/from your destination.
· You are trying to show your enthusiasm, look for fun stuff!
Why do you want to go to that destination?
· What will you do when you get there? (Example, Eiffel Tower in Paris)
o Concerts
o Museums
o Beach
o Ride bikes
o Broadway show
· How much money will each attraction cost?
· How much for food?
· How much will transportation cost when you get there (metro passes, train passes, car rental fees—pretend you are old enough to drive)
How do I figure all this out?

If you are searching for the information about France, first go to our district encyclopedia to get basic facts about the country, like where it is, etc. The page is called “Online Resources 4 Students”. There is a couple of encyclopedias and login information by each name.
Then, search on Google, Yahoo! or another search engine, questions like “What attractions are in Paris?” Look for results from about.com, or tripadvisor.com.

►Study Island Study Island is a TAKS practice site for students in grades 2 – 8. Students log in with their student ID + @campus (for example, 897650@bms) and their regular computer login password. Study Island Unit 5Our next unit is all about making deeper connections with the text we read. We will be looking at different traditions celebrated by other cultures and comparing them with our own, and others we learn about. What a better way to explore another culture than by looking at the weddings they celebrate??? Weddings have a little bit of everything: tradition, dress, ritual, food, family, and music. Hope you enjoy this unit and learn some significant knowledge about other cultures.
Please check out the links on the right side of this page. You will find a beginning research site or two, and a chart on which you can record your information. Mrs. Jackson Wikis, Wikis, EverywhereOur next unit is called Deeper Connections. We will be connecting some of the concepts we have learned and looking for themes in common. We will also be using technology in the form of class Wikis.

Below is some information for a writing contest you can do on your own. I was really impressed with your perspective essays last week. This contest is another perspective piece--but a folktale or fairy tale perspective. To look at an example, check out a book called The True Story of the Three Little Pigs at our library. The specific information on the contest is in the Files section, below. Mrs. Jackson Quizzes
